It’s not often that I get nominated for anything or win anything in general. I managed to leave my youth with only about two trophies from sports and various activities and most of the time they were for participation. But yesterday, I found a very kind comment on my New Years Eve post from James Bonfield Recipes. He nominated me for a Liebster Award, which showcases new, small blogs to get their name out into the blogging world and I am truly touched and honored that he would consider nominating my little blog!
I started this blog, not for recognition (though who doesn’t love a little recognition now and again), but for my love of baking and cooking. I’ve always wanted to display my culinary skills and give myself a reason to get off the couch and get into my kitchen. I am beyond touched that someone would recognize my hard work and dedication.
After seeing James’ comment, I was hesitant of this award. I receive tons of spam and chain letters on my blog daily, all which immediately end up in the trash. I thought this might be the same sort of thing. But after doing some research, I found it was a perfect way to promote small bloggers and broaden their audience base. We all work so hard to bring you daily or weekly posts and that hard work should not go unnoticed.
So to continue the thread of the Liebster Award, I too will be nominating 11 small food blogs (like myself) to get their name out there. I will be looking for sites that are not mainstream and who’s posts I find both interesting and inspiring. I hope you continue the Liebster tradition and pass on this nomination to other small bloggers in our little blogging world.

- I am currently a senior at Rutgers University and I have a major that is really a mouthful so I usually just tell people that I’m an Economics major. The formal name of my degree is: Environmental and Business Economics with a concentration in Food Industry Economics.
- Cooking and baking is really my passion (as I’m sure you had no idea from this blog) and I have considered attending culinary school on more than one occasion.
- Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. I’m currently working on attempting to read 333 books off the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge.
- I’m also a t.v. nut. As in, I’ll marathon entire series of t.v. shows in only a few sittings.
- I’m a dedicated and hardworking person in everything I put my mind to. Which is partly why I am a bookworm and throw my life into my work.
- For years I’ve been shutting myself out of my own life to do well in school and succeed in my job, but recently I’ve decided that life is too short and I’ve been attempting to get out of my comfort-zone.
- I don’t like ricotta cheese.
- After graduation, I plan to move to New York City with Meg and hopefully we find an apartment that we can afford…
- I’ve been considering going back to school to get my MBA in Marketing, but recently a career in food styling seems really appealing. Or working at Food Network. Who knows where I’ll end up.
- I’m very indecisive.

Questions I Was Asked
- What dish do you cook when you need ‘comfort food’ at the end of a long day? Most likely anything with pasta, but specifically there is nothing better than Pioneer Woman’s Penne a la Betsey. It is perfect for those times when you just need a big bowl of pasta, shrimp, and a tomato-cream sauce.
- What kitchen gadget couldn’t you live without? Meg’s Kitchenaid Stand Mixer. This is why we have to be roommates until I can afford my own .
- Do you have a favourite herb/spice you like to cook with? Can you consider garlic an herb or spice? If so, garlic. No food can have too much garlic.
- What is your favourite cookery book? My favorite cook book is The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl. I have tons of cook books, but this is the one I’ve used the most. I really need to start using my other ones…
- Why did you start blogging about food? I just always wanted to share the food I make with others. I’ve been trying to start writing my own recipes, but I love telling people about my trials and tribulations in the kitchen. Plus it gives me a reason to bake and cook almost every day. Cooking and baking for me is like therapy, it can solve any issue I am having and makes me happy.
- What menu would you cook for a romantic meal for 2? Ha, something without garlic. I think it would depend if it was a date that I was on or for someone else. When I cook for guys I am dating, I always try to make their favorite dishes, even if I’ve never heard of it before or something that they’d really like. I think that’s more special than serving up homemade surf and turf.
- Which celebrities would you invite to a dinner party, and why? Ina Garten, Anne Burrell, Alex Guarnaschelli, Ree Drummond, Alton Brown, pretty much every celebrity chef that I love. I’d want to cook for them, even though it would be nerve-wracking and I’m sure I’d screw something up, but I’d just want to hear about their experiences and learn from them.
- What’s your favourite takeaway food? Takeout food, probably a stromboli from Stuff Yer Face. It’s a small bar/restaurant by my school that makes the best strombolis that I’ve ever had. Whenever I’m too exhausted to cook, I’ll usually treat myself to one.
- What did you have for Christmas dinner? For Christmas, my mom’s side of the family came over for dinner. She’s one of eight so we have a huge family. To feed the masses we made: regular lasagna, lasagna bolognese, meatballs, sausage and peppers, ziti with chicken parm, and plain ziti. Dessert consisted of: my aunt’s famous Christmas cookies, carrot cake, and cannolis. Oh and we are 0% Italian.
- What’s your opinion of vegetarian food? I don’t mind it. I find that I end up being a vegetarian most weeks because meat is so expensive and I’m usually too lazy to cook it on the weekdays. I’d never be a true vegetarian, but I have no problem with it.
- What would be your favourite sandwich? Italian sub, hands down.
