Apple and Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

I’ve mentioned this quite a few times now, but for some reason I am starting to become a cheese person, as in, give me all the cheese in the world and I will be as happy as a clam. Like a clam living in a sea of mozzarella, gruyere, fontina, and parmesan. Just a little clam living under a cheese ball, floating on a wave of cheddar. Yeah I have no idea either.

Just like I have no idea where this obsession has come from. For years, and I mean YEARS, I hated cheese. Wouldn’t look at the stuff, get near it, and you definitely could not get me to eat anything covered in it, but now? Bring on the cheese, I’m even considering making you more cheese dishes. Please send me suggestions, I need to try more cheese. Gouda? Brie or a.k.a “the cheese that melts at room temperature”. Yes, Meg did just Google that for me. Maybe I should restrain myself for a bit before I jump into fancy cheeses.

But if you are as obsessed with cheese as I seem to be, you must try this grilled cheese. From the words of Meg’s mouth, “this is the best grilled cheese I have ever had and the first grilled cheese I have ever had.” And she disliked cheese as much as I used to. Two girls who were not big fans of cheese are saying this is the best grilled cheese they’ve ever had, then it has to be amazing. And it is. The combination of crunchy bread, bacon, apples, and gruyere. YUM. Laurie at Simply Scratch just understands me and my new obsession with cheese.

Really though, any sandwich that has bacon on it is instantly going to be delicious.

Apple and Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
From the grilled cheese master, Simply Scratch

Ingredients:
4 slices of your favorite bread
4 slices of bacon
1/2 galla apple, thinly sliced
1/2 cup gruyere cheese, grated
Black pepper, to taste

Directions:
Preheat a skillet over medium heat and butter one side of your bread.

Lay the first slice of bread in the pan, butter side down. While it’s in the pan, layer the apple on the bread and then alternate between cheese and the bacon. Sprinkle on black pepper and top with the remaining cheese. Butter the other slice of bread and place on top. Carefully flip the grilled cheese once the bottom slice is browned.

Remove from the pan once the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.

Continue with the second sandwich. Remove from the pan and enjoy!

    Can I just say, that I would love to live in the delicious cheesy sea you just described?? I’d be even happier than a clam, and probably fatter too lol. LOVE this grilled cheese btw – since this sandwich is sort of a staple of my diet at RU I’m always up for some new variations :D

    I continue to back up the quote from me you included here, I am obsessed with this grilled cheese (AND I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M SAYING THAT) and think about it once an hour. Unthinkably delicious and I want it alllllllllllll of the days longggggg.
